According to researches done all around the world, the best way through which children learn English or other languages is by playing. Because of that, English schools must do their best to make some interesting games for kids. In this article, we are going to talk about some ways that English schools can make English easier through games.
Why games are important
Playing is not just for fun especially when it is done at Best English schools for kids. It is also an action to get rid of the stress of studying and all the homework and enjoy the passing time. Teaching by games can make kids think they are playing instead of studying seriously. They would listen to the teacher’s instructions without any resistance because they think they are having fun and teachers might not sound that serious while playing a game that has a teaching purpose. As we all know just a few kids might like to study, and the reasons are pretty obvious. But would they keep hating it when it is merged with the best and loveliest pastime, which is playing a game? I don’t think so! Interestingly, children get more satisfied and amused by the games which are made by their peers. They think they created what is theirs and they feel they understand it better because it is easier. They might think games created by adults are difficult and involve more difficult rules. Moreover, it gives them some kind of power when they invent a game and make their rules for it. It doesn’t matter if the game is a simple childish one or the one which can even be taught to others so that it can be played and used for years. It is a perfect way for English schools to teach English and provoke the creativity of kids via getting their help to make games for kids. On the other hand, since it is English schools we are talking about, we should consider the obvious fact that the games we are designing must be indoor ones so that they would be suitable to be played and used at schools. Although most schools have yards, the classes are better places to play because other equipment such as a board is available to teach vocabulary or grammar.
Also, there is this other point we have to pay attention to, which is the fact that children’s safety is of great value. So a class can be a safer and smaller place where kids are familiar with every part of it already. Therefore, we are looking for some games for kids which are safe, played indoors, and interesting enough to be a way of teaching English.
Games for kids
The first indoor game we are going to talk about is Bubble Making. At the very first, it might not be so interesting or not even something through which we can teach English. But looking deeper, we realize that some words and idioms can be taught through just this simple and easy game. Moreover, the game does not need a lot of stuff to be played. It needs some dishwashing liquid, a little water, some plates, and thin hollow tubes of plastic in which we can blow and make bubbles.
The next interesting game for English schools is Listening Game. It can be done using any available stuff which can make a unique sound. The way it works is so easy. We ask kids to close their eyes and guess the thing which is making the sound. Through this game, kids can learn the English name of all the objects which are being used.
The third game to introduced is called Memory Game which is a perfect way to learn English. Let‘s learn how it is played. Children sit in a circle and one by one say 5 selective words (words can be names of people, objects, or any other category chosen by the teacher). Then one kid is chosen and is asked about the words that the other kid has said. This is also a great mental and memory exercise.
Now we are going to talk about the game without which no list of games is complete. Hide and Seek! In this game, one person covers his/her eyes and counts to 10 then other kids hide. When counting ends, he/she looks around to find the hidden kids. It is a lovely game for children of all ages.
Last but not least, the fifth game to talk about is called Paper-bag Skit. This game is an ideal one for older children. In this game, a large group of people is divided into two or three smaller ones. Then each group is given a bag full of objects (they should be fun and irrelevant objects so that the game will be funnier). Then 15 minutes is given to them and they are asked what was inside. The point is that children need to guess the name of the objects just via touching (with closed eyes to make it more fun).
What is important about the games
In the end, we should mention the important fact that the kind of game which is made or played heavily depends on the children who are playing it. First, we have to study the kids in our English school and to get to know them better and try to understand what kind of game they like and enjoy. Second, we should try to design games which suit them best. If the kids are old enough to talk about their opinions, the easiest way is to ask them what they enjoy playing. If they cannot express themselves or do not know how to explain their ideas, we can ask their parents.
All in all, the point of all this is to make a better way of teaching English through making games for kids in our English schools. Therefore, we must do our best to bring joy to the kids’ lives and make a time for children to have fun with their peers. Our very first priority is children and their satisfaction. We should care about the material to teach. But children need to have fun to learn better.
